Twin Rivers Unified trustees and district staff recognized students who received on-the-spot college acceptances and scholarship offers at the district’s annual HBCU college fair, presented in partnership with UCAN.
Megan Simmons, executive director of secondary education, introduced students from Creative Connections Arts Academy, Foothill, Grant Union, Rio Linda and other sites who received scholarships. Dr. Allen Rowe, who the district and speakers identified as a long-time UCAN partner, reported the college-fair figures shown to the board: roughly 984 attendees at the fair (about 804 Twin Rivers students), 168 on-the-spot acceptances, 48 scholarship offers and a total four-year scholarship value cited at $1,364,000. Rowe and trustees emphasized ongoing counseling and follow-up to help students access awarded funds and acceptances.
The board presented certificates to individual recipients and thanked UCAN and community partners for sustained college-access work. Administrators stressed that school-site staff and UCAN personnel will continue to support scholarship awardees through the application and enrollment process.
