Board approves multiple student expulsions and adopts several recognition resolutions

The Twin Rivers Unified School District Board of Trustees approved a series of student discipline recommendations and adopted multiple ceremonial resolutions at its October meeting.

Trustee Michael Baker moved to approve the recommendation in student expulsion case 88223; Trustee Bastian seconded and the motion carried. Trustees Sandoval, Bastian, O'Kara, Baker, Bridal and Jefferson voted yes; Trustee Boyd voted no. Similar motions to approve expulsions in cases labeled A1‑25, A2‑25, A3‑25 and A4‑25 were made by Trustee Baker and seconded by Trustee Bastian; the board recorded votes for each motion and carried the recommendations. The board also approved an extension in expulsion case A94‑23 following a motion by Trustee Baker and second by Trustee Bastian.

In ceremonial business the board unanimously adopted Resolution 1393 recognizing October 2024 as Filipino American History Month. The board also adopted Resolution 1392 recognizing California School Bus Safety Month and National School Bus Safety Week; the resolution text listed district transportation figures included in the motion (2,400 students transported to 41 sites; 88 buses; staffing counts as stated in the resolution). Resolution 1391, recognizing the Week of the School Administrator, and Resolution 1394, declaring Sacramento Poetry Day, were also adopted.

Trustee motions and votes were recorded on the public record for each action. Where abstentions were recorded on other agenda items, those abstentions were reflected in the trustee roll call recorded during the meeting.

The board’s adoption of the resolutions will be entered into district records; the student discipline actions are effective per the orders announced during the closed-session votes. The board set its next regular meeting for Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 6 p.m.
