Commissioners dissolve Yellowstone County Park Board and begin park-plan adoption process

Yellowstone County staff told commissioners on July 9 that the county plans to transition parks management from a volunteer Parks Board to an in‑house Public Works function. Because that shift changes the board’s operational role, staff presented Resolution 24‑113 to dissolve the Yellowstone County Park Board. No members of the public spoke on the dissolution; Commissioner Morris moved for approval and the board approved Resolution 24‑113 by voice vote.
Staff also presented Resolution 24‑114 to adopt a county park inventory, park plan, and park regulations. County staff said the adoption process requires two public hearings; the July 9 session was the first hearing and no adoption vote was taken. A second public hearing was scheduled in two weeks before the board would consider final adoption.
Staff emphasized appreciation for the volunteer board’s decades of service and said the resolutions are an administrative step to formally house parks management in the county’s Public Works department.
