The Yellowstone County sheriff opened his portion of the July 9 Board of County Commissioners meeting to recognize several internal promotions. Sergeant Tanner Johnson (formerly Detective Tanner Johnson) was among those promoted; Deputy Sandquist was promoted to detective; Corporal Jesse Turner was elevated to sergeant; Corey Schaeffer was promoted to lieutenant to serve as second-in-command at the detention facility; and Brandon Smart, previously a lieutenant, was promoted to captain to lead operations at the detention facility.
Sheriff officials framed the promotions as recognition of service and as assignments intended to support courthouse and detention operations. The board thanked the sheriff and congratulated the promoted officers before proceeding with the remainder of the agenda.
