Fenton board authorizes purchase and supplier installation for park pavilion

The Fenton Board of Aldermen voted Sept. 12 to move forward with the purchase of a 24‑foot pavilion for Veil (Valiant) Park and to have the supplier perform installation.
Parks staff showed the board a pavilion kit priced at $30,615 for the structure, stamped plans and delivery; the supplier’s quoted installation cost was $57,765. Staff and aldermen emphasized that the quoted install cost did not include concrete pads, walkways or demolition of an existing pavilion — those flat‑work items will be bid separately to identify the best local contractor and control cost.
Public Works staff (Dan) said modern concrete and installation costs have risen and that an install price in the mid‑$20,000 range was reasonable for the work involved (footings, posts and site preparation). Some aldermen expressed prior concerns about the supplier’s past subcontracting and recommended that staff return engineered plans and solicitation language so the board can review bids before final construction begins.
A motion to contract All Inclusive Rec to supply and install the pavilion (with the concrete and demolition bid out separately) passed on a voice vote. Board members directed staff to return with engineered drawings and bid specifications and to coordinate whether supplier and local contractors can share responsibilities where appropriate.
Next steps: staff will obtain engineered plans from the supplier, seek competitive bids for the concrete work and demolition, and bring back a full project scope and schedule to the board.
