Residents urge pause on Title IX changes and raise safety, curriculum and staffing concerns

Art Howell said, ‘‘We’re all created and born as male and female,’’ framing his remarks in opposition to the new language on gender identity. Other public commenters amplified safety and parental‑rights themes and urged deferring adoption.
Several residents made separate appeals on district operations and safety. Ryan Folkeny described a violent assault on his son last fall and asked the board and administration to view video evidence as part of a broader request for a ‘‘permanent safe solution.’’ Another commenter reported a book on district shelves that contains racial slurs and said a submitted reconsideration request had been delayed.
Speakers also raised operational concerns including bus driver shortages, the quality of the district’s AV/streaming systems, and calls to reinstate class rankings for college admissions reporting.
District staff said they would follow up with individual speakers on personnel, safety or policy review items.
