Port announces $1 million EPA award for Pier 27 shore power, plus Earth Hour and Salmon Summit plans

Monique Moyer, the Port's executive director, gave a brief report covering upcoming events and project updates. She said the Port will participate in Earth Hour on Saturday, March 27, turning off lights on Port of San Francisco buildings from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. in recognition of the global event.
Moyer announced a Salmon Summit on April 1, 2010, at Fort Mason from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to bring attention to salmon fishing closures and discuss long-term solutions for the West Coast salmon industry; the event includes a free seafood reception hosted by tenant restaurants. She also said California native chef Russell Jackson will open Lafitte restaurant at Pier 5 in April (dinner service initially, with lunch and weekend brunch beginning in May).
On capital projects, Moyer reported the Port was awarded $1,000,000 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency under a Diesel Emissions Reduction Act program to support the shore power project at Pier 27. She said the Port has received a transformer for the project, completed a 100% design, and received permitting clearance from the Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC); a few outstanding items with PG&E remain before construction begins. Moyer thanked staff and partners including the Bay Area Air Quality Management District and the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission for support of the project.
