The Village of Homer Glen on Nov. 18 voted to create a pipeline subcommittee of the Environment Committee to examine pipeline maintenance and tree‑clearing activity across the village.
Trustee Mason, who said he and village staff walked affected property, moved for the subcommittee and described strong community interest in closer oversight. "They would love to see a subcommittee to make sure that we're doing our due diligence and looking out for the people of our community," Mason said during the discussion. Trustees approved the motion by roll call.
The board appointed Trustee Councilino and Trustee Steilen as co‑chairs and named resident members Mike McGee, Dave Buckley and Margaret Sabo. Trustees discussed whether the subcommittee should be temporary or permanent; Councilino suggested quarterly meetings unless issues require more frequent attention. The board also noted the committee will have a staff liaison; trustees said village engineer Brett Westcott will serve in that role.
Trustees said the subcommittee will review pipeline impacts, including tree removal and preservation questions, and coordinate with staff on any recommended code or procedural changes. The board approved the appointments and the change to the village's standard operating procedures that adds the pipeline subcommittee.
