Port Commission raises contract thresholds to align with city code

Norman Nelson, the port’s contract manager, told commissioners the port’s $50,000 threshold dated to the 1980s and now conflicts with Chapter 6 of the San Francisco Administrative Code, which sets higher thresholds for city departments. Nelson said the resolution would reduce the number of staff reports and streamline the contracting process.
Commissioners discussed the history of the threshold and accepted a clarification that the $50,000 level had been in place since the 1980s. After a motion and second, the commission approved the resolution by voice vote.
Port staff said the change is intended to improve administrative efficiency and reduce agenda volume; no specific savings estimate was provided in the presentation. The resolution passed and the Executive Director’s delegated authority for the specified contract types will be effective immediately unless otherwise noted in the resolution text.
