The City Council approved an ordinance to accept a Surface Transportation Block Grant (STBG) program agreement with the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission to support the Ladue Road improvement project.
Senior engineer Steve Reis presented the project as federally funded under the STBG program and described an optional city-funded upgrade to add illuminated street-name signs at three intersections (Spady, Grazier and Moseley). Reis said the city would bear 100% of the sign cost and estimated roughly $5,000 per sign; lighting four corners at one intersection and two corners at the others would add about $40,000 to the project budget. "This would be an opportunity to reinforce that the city wants to continue with these illuminated signs," Reis said, noting improved nighttime visibility and wayfinding benefits.
Council members supported the visibility benefits for an aging population and asked staff to ensure other related work, such as striping and crosswalk improvements at Ladue and Spady, is included in the project scope. The ordinance authorizing the STBG agreement was approved by unanimous vote.
