Poway Unified board ratifies committee appointments and accepts Cal SHAPE ventilation grant authorization

At its Oct. 10 meeting, the Poway Unified School District Board unanimously authorized staff to apply for and accept a Cal SHAPE (California School Healthy Air Plumbing and Efficiency) ventilation grant reported in the meeting at roughly $6.9 million to support HVAC assessments, maintenance, filter replacements and CO2 monitor installation across district classrooms.

Mister Magnuson presented the resolution and the board approved the request by motion and unanimous vote. One board member echoed the meeting light-heartedly: "I don't think anybody wants to turn down $6,800,000," reflecting a small numerical discrepancy in spoken remarks.

The board also ratified superintendent appointments to a Real Property Advisory Committee. Staff said 11 community members were selected from more than 120 volunteers through a multistage review process consistent with Education Code 17389; the first RPAC meeting was scheduled for Oct. 16. The board voted to ratify the appointments unanimously.

Other approved items included an amendment to Carmel Mountain Ranch Community Association CC&Rs to clarify that district-owned property within the association may be used for for-rent residential apartments subject to design guidelines, and the routine consent calendar. The preschool Creative Curriculum adoption was presented as a first reading; board members confirmed the curriculum follows state preschool and TK standards and that a formal vote would be scheduled at a later meeting.

All routine votes reported at the meeting were recorded as unanimous in open session.
