On Oct. 29 the Vandenberg County Board of Commissioners approved two governance delegations meant to speed operational response.
After fire chiefs reported neighboring counties had issued burn bans and asked for flexibility, the board authorized the commission president to enact a burn ban without convening a special meeting if expected rain does not materialize and county staff recommends a ban. The authorization was described as a narrow delegation to avoid repeated special meetings when weather conditions change.
Commissioner Musgrave also moved to delegate management of day‑to‑day oversight of the ambulance/AMR contract to the Central Dispatch board, which includes rotating representation from county and city fire and law enforcement and council or mayoral appointees. Central Dispatch will handle administration and oversight while final contract approval and negotiation remain with the commissioners.
Both motions passed unanimously.
