Board approves demolitions, special-event street closures and multiple permits; Colon Screening 5K request tabled

The Evansville Board approved four demolition contracts, a series of road-closure and dumpster permits, and special-event closures including a Tiki on Main event and the University of Evansville MLK march; the Colon Screening for Life 5K was tabled pending more information on road closures.
At its Nov. 6 meeting the Evansville City Board of Public Safety approved multiple bids, special-event permits, road closures and street permits, and tabled one large event request for additional details.
The Building Commission recommended awarding low bids for four demolition projects: 916 West Illinois to High Door & Excavating for $6,380; 616 East Illinois to Belpin/Belfin Landfill for $7,700; 1424 Cody Street to Belpin/Belfin Landfill for $4,800; and 832 Lincoln Avenue to Belfin Landfill for $10,900. The board moved, seconded and approved awarding those bids.
The board approved several special-event and road-closure requests: Tiki on Main received permission to close Main Street between Fifth and Sixth on Monday, Nov. 11 from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.; the University of Evansville was granted a route closure for a symbolic MLK march scheduled for Monday, Jan. 20 from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Allstott Hoffman Plumbing received approval to close Illinois Street north of 120 N. Main for a water tap/sewer project Nov. 11–13 (8 a.m.–4 p.m.), and a residential water-tap closure at 1104 North Carbon Street on Nov. 8 (7:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.) was approved.
A request from Colon Screening for Life to close Riverside Drive (Ohio to Waterworks) and parts of Main Street for a June 14, 2025 5K/1-mile walk (8 a.m.–12 p.m.) drew questions from board members about closing both sides of Riverside and whether the applicant had considered alternate routing. The board voted to table that permit so the applicant can provide a representative and more information.
The board also approved a series of dumpster street permits (221 W. Louisiana; 1901 Hawthorne; 1320 E. Oregon; old courthouse on Main Street; 500 S. Bedford; 3402 W. Franklin) and approved a massage-therapy application for Ezekiel Spa at 4035 East Morgan after discussion about whether the application was new. The board approved claims and the minutes of the Oct. 23 meeting before adjourning.
Votes at a glance: the board denied the parking permit for 911 East Mulberry; approved the Reedy Financial $30,000 addendum for an EMS feasibility study; approved the updated table of organization; awarded demolition bids at four addresses (see above); approved special-event permits for Tiki on Main and the University of Evansville MLK march; approved multiple road-closure and dumpster permits; tabled the Colon Screening for Life 5K request for more information.
What’s next: The Colon Screening for Life applicant was asked to provide a representative and additional routing details before the board will reconsider that permit request.
