Evansville board opens demolition bids for six properties, low bids recorded

Kim, representing the Building Commission, asked the board to open bids for 1323 Oakley Street; 1415 West Maryland Street; 908 North Fourth Avenue; 919 West Missouri Street; 513 East Gumb/Gumm Street; and 832 Lincoln Avenue. "Today, we're requesting approval to open demolition bids for the following properties," Kim said.
A staff member reported three contractors submitted bids. Stemily Excavating submitted the lowest offers on multiple parcels, including $7,698.14 for 1323 Oakley Street, $7,486 for 1415 West Maryland Street and $6,905 for 908 North Fourth Avenue. Velpen and Highdorn (also reported as Hideorn/Highdorn Excavating in the bid readout) submitted higher bids on several parcels; Highdorn submitted $9,175 for 832 Lincoln Avenue and smaller amounts on other parcels. Staff summarized the low bidders and recommended taking the bids under advisement.
The board approved a motion to open the bids and then approved a separate motion to take the reported bids under advisement until the next meeting. No contract awards or final contractor approvals were made at the Aug. 28 meeting.
Next steps: the board will revisit the bid packages at a subsequent meeting before awarding demolition contracts.
