Trustee Sperling introduced the proclamation highlighting that breast cancer is the most common cancer among women globally and the second-leading cause of cancer deaths among women in the United States. The proclamation cited lifetime diagnosis rates (about one in eight women and one in 833 men) and noted metastatic breast cancer typically carries an average life expectancy of about 26 months, according to text read into the record.
The proclamation called for increased public knowledge of early detection and treatment and urged residents to support research and those affected by the disease. President Matthew T. Brawley signed the document on behalf of the village. A motion to approve the proclamation was moved and seconded and carried by voice vote.
No public comments were made during the public comment period that followed the proclamation. The board moved on to the consent agenda after the vote.
