Milledgeville council adopts budget amendment to add part-time code enforcement officer

City manager Griffin told the council the position is intended to replace a contract code enforcement worker and provide official city representation, including driving a city vehicle and covering nights and weekends. "I would ask you all if you would to suspend the rules tonight and approve that on the first read tonight so that we can go ahead and get that person in and and get that person, working," Griffin said.
Council suspended the rules by motion and then voted to adopt Ordinance O-24-10-18 on a single reading. The clerk called the roll; every present council member voted "Aye," and the chair declared the budget amended and adopted.
Griffin also updated the council on the three-year work program, saying many items show as complete and noting staff will return with recommended next steps. He described planned work on retirement benefits for new hires, proposing a move to a defined contribution plan for future employees and promising to bring a pension-committee recommendation to council later this year. He asked for a closed-session update on personnel and a real-estate transaction; council approved going into executive session by roll call.
