City planning staff reviewed a memo and invited the Planning and Zoning Commission to identify priorities for a joint work session with City Council slated for Aug. 26.
Staff suggested three primary topics for the session: possible amendments to the fence code (particularly front-yard fences), revisions to accessory-structure standards to address aesthetic concerns, and a targeted review of the city’s comprehensive plan to identify accomplished goals and areas for update.
Commissioners also discussed the East Olive corridor and its earlier redevelopment work, pedestrian and sidewalk improvements (noting recent sidewalk work on Bloomberg and Olive), short-term rental enforcement (minimum-night stays and posted windows), and a five-year annexation map that staff submitted to the Boundary Commission. Staff said the annexation map will go through the boundary-review process and that presentation to the commission or council could occur in the fall. Staff added they will meet this week with an EV-charging provider and will later bring any recommended text amendments to council.
Commissioners agreed to cancel the Aug. 5 meeting if no applications arrive and to hold the next regular meeting on Aug. 19; the commission also nominated a chair to preside at that meeting.
The joint session will be an opportunity for the commission to present these topics to council and to prioritize materials staff should prepare for discussion.
