Board approves Butterfield Road bike-path maintenance agreement and special-use permit for indoor soccer facility

The Vernon Hills Village Board approved two ordinances on final action during its July meeting.
Ordinance 2024‑098 authorizes an agreement with the Lake County Department of Transportation for the construction and village maintenance/ownership of the Butterfield Road multiuse path extension. Director Bennett told the board that Lake County will fund construction and the village would accept responsibility for maintenance afterward, including winter plowing and upkeep. He said the county plans to advertise the project in September with construction expected to begin in the spring following bidding.
"They constructed the path from town line up to Gregg's Parkway as the first phase," Director Bennett said when summarizing the project history, adding that the county is fully funding construction of the next phase to Gulf Road and that the maintenance agreement is the final step before the county goes to bid.
The roll-call vote recorded unanimous 'Aye' responses from trustees present and the motion to adopt ordinance 2024‑098 carried.
The board also approved ordinance 2024‑099, which grants a special‑use permit for a new indoor soccer training facility, The Soccer Practice, at 560 Bunker Court Unit 4. Director Jennings said the petitioners will lease and operate a technology‑enhanced youth training center; the Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval with two minor conditions: replacement of a dead evergreen near the entrance and follow-up on signage to meet the regional PUD standards.
The board voted on ordinance 2024‑099 by roll call and the measure passed with unanimous 'Aye' votes.
