Zion council approves minutes, pays $203,783.05 in bills and lists upcoming events

The Zion City Council on Aug. 20 approved its consent agenda, including minutes from the Aug. 6, 2002 regular meeting, and authorized payment of bills and vouchers numbered 146576 through 146656 drawn on John Huntington National Bank totaling $203,783.05.
Commissioner Clarkson moved to approve the minutes; Commissioner McDowell seconded and the motion carried on unanimous roll-call 'Aye' votes. Commissioner Fisher moved to approve payment of bills; Commissioner Holmes seconded and the motion also carried unanimously.
During citizen comments a member of the public asked whether a second council meeting would be held Oct. 15 because of the election and early voting schedule; council members replied that early voting begins in the last two weeks of the month and that the regular schedule likely covers the timeframe.
Council members used the announcements portion of the meeting to highlight community activities: a Zinnia and Monarch Festival, a concert in the park, a Mayor's Prayer Breakfast (56th year) to be held at the high school's south cafeteria, the Zion Labor Day parade, and a movie-in-the-park series beginning the first Friday in September.
The meeting adjourned following a final unanimous vote to close the session.
