Drainage Board updates stop-work order, Pond Flat/Main project permitting and approves ditch claims

The Vanderburgh County Drainage Board convened after the commissioners' meeting on July 9 and reviewed ongoing issues in the drainage program.
Staff member Linda reported an active stop-work order at Saint Joe Industrial Park and said updated plans have been submitted. She said a July 11 meeting arranged by the building commission's flood-plain manager will include state participants from agencies such as the Indiana Department of Natural Resources to seek a resolution. "There is a meeting scheduled for July 11 that involves the Indiana Department of Water and other interested parties," Linda said, and staff hopes a solution can be reached before the July 23 meeting.
The board approved retroactive payment of nine ditch claims totaling $3,849.38 since the June 25 meeting; eight claims were for contracted maintenance already approved in 2024, while one claim of $500 covered tree removal after a fallen tree in Palm Flat Lateral D.
Staff also updated the board on the Pond Flat/Main Project (FW32733-0), reporting a July 2 meeting with IDNR staff regarding a floodway permit and noting that USGS mapping indicating the stream length exceeds 10 miles triggers IDNR permitting. Staff said they are confident the permit will be issued and that construction could begin later this year.
