The Vanderburgh County Board of Commissioners opened a public hearing on July 9 on a proposed lease agreement with the Evansville-Vanderburgh County Building Authority related to a jail expansion. Joe Harrison, attorney for the building authority, and David (Dave) Rector, representing the authority, asked the board to continue the hearing and consider the lease and a related resolution at the July 23 meeting.
"We'd like for the lease agreement to be considered, I believe, at the next meeting, that you all meet at on the July 23," attorney Joe Harrison said, addressing the board. County staff confirmed the agreement is to be paired with a resolution and that, after the commissioners' action, the lease and resolution will go to county council for final approval. The board agreed to continue the hearing to the July 23 meeting.
County Attorney entered a written letter from his office into the record describing emergency financing correspondence and noting related documentation had been circulated; the attorney also referenced earlier emergency actions taken by the coroner (see department head reports). No vote on the lease was taken on July 9; the hearing was continued to allow the building authority and staff to present the lease and resolution at the July 23 meeting.
