The Evansville Board of Public Works voted Sept. 5 to approve a contract and memorandum of understanding with AARP to offer free rides on Election Day, Nov. 5, 2024. The board recorded net fares of $2,500 and mobility fares of $500 under the arrangement.
Jonathan Seemaking, director of METS, told the board the document is “a cleaned up version of the contract” and said the program is similar to last year’s effort. He said AARP will sponsor the free‑ride day by placing advertisements on buses, on media players and by issuing a press release.
The board approved the contract by voice vote after an affirmative motion and second. No member raised objections during the discussion.
The agreement aims to increase transit access to polling places on Election Day through a sponsored fare waiver; the contract text and any follow‑up outreach were not read into the record.
