Kearney, Mo. — The Kearney Board of Aldermen on July 15 passed two ordinances: an update to local nuisance and public‑tree rules and approval of a federal grant for a park project.
Sheila Ernsen, the city administrator, presented Bill No. 29‑2024, an ordinance amending Chapter 2.15 (Nuisances), Chapter 2.32 (Public Tree Care) and Chapter 5.10 (Streets, Sidewalks and Other Public Places) of the city code. Ernsen said she removed language that had proposed expanding the ordinance to "half a mile outside of city limits" at the board's request. The board approved first reading by voice and then approved the ordinance on second reading; a roll call recorded aldermen voting "Aye" and the mayor stated the vote was unanimous.
Parks and recreation director Eric Marshall presented Bill No. 30‑2024, which approves a financial assistance agreement with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources for a Land and Water Conservation Fund grant of $504,653 for the long‑planned park project. Marshall said the agreement would allow the city to receive federal grant money through the Land and Water Conservation Fund for the park project the city has been planning for several years. The board approved the measure on first and second readings and passed it unanimously.
