Cleveland County awards $125,000 contract to rehabilitate Broad River Greenway trails

A county representative said the county received grant funding in 2022 for trail rehabilitation and the project includes a $100,000 grant plus a required $25,000 county match. The project will target approximately 2.5 miles of trail, widening paths that are currently about 3–4 feet wide to roughly 8 feet and addressing erosion and ruts to improve access for emergency vehicles and first responders.
The county reached out to Hoke Construction (through an RFQ) to develop cost estimates; the board moved to award a $125,000 contract and discussed whether some trails could later be made available for limited senior access by cart or golf-cart on specified days if conditions and grades permitted.
Commissioners said widening would improve two-way travel and safety; the motion to award the contract passed unanimously.
