MARION COUNTY, IN โ Marion County Commissioners on Aug. 20 voted to allow four nonprofit organizations to participate in the county's 2023 nonprofit tax-sale online auction after staff reported the applicants had submitted required documents.
County staff told the board four organizations applied and were recommended for approval: West Indianapolis Development Corporation; Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership (INHP); Southeast Neighborhood Development CDC (SEND); and Intend Indiana Affordable Home Matters, LLC. Staff said a fifth organization listed on the agenda, Near North Development Corporation, registered initially but withdrew its application.
When asked how many properties each group had expressed interest in, staff said they could not recall the figures without the applications in front of them but confirmed that all four submitted the required documentation and that each application folder included a checklist showing staff verification. Staff also noted it is possible for two applicants to apply for the same house and said the organizations typically resolve competing interests among themselves.
Commissioner Barbara Lawrence moved to approve all four applications as a group to proceed to the online nonprofit auction; President Joseph O'Connor seconded. The motion carried by voice vote. Staff clarified that one applicant has changed its operating/name designation previously: staff said the applicant formerly identified as "Renew" and that the deed language lists "Affordable Home Matters." No dollar amounts, counts of properties, or further selection procedures were specified during the meeting.
The commission scheduled its next regular meeting for Sept. 17, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in Room 260 of the City County Building and then adjourned.
