Nicole Niemeyer, project manager with the South Florida Water Management District, told the Town of Cutler Bay council on Oct. 16 that the Biscayne Bay Coastal Wetlands (BBCW) Phase 1 Cutler Wetlands component is moving forward with site work and in-progress construction. The project, authorized by Congress in 2014 as part of a comprehensive Everglades restoration plan, aims to reduce point-source discharges from the C-1 Canal, restore salinity regimes and reestablish nursery habitat along the shore.
