District outlines underground tank closure at Brevard Elementary, BHS gym work and RFQ for construction manager

Facilities lead reported the underground storage tank at Brevard Elementary will be closed in place this summer, Rosman/Rosamond replacement tanks planned for next summer, and the RFQ for a Construction Manager at Risk for Brevard High School projects is currently out.
Beatrice Allison provided the facilities update at the Transylvania County Board of Education meeting on June 16.
Allison said SNME has completed the first step in the underground storage tank plan and that “the storage tank at Brevard Elementary School is being closed in place this summer.” She said replacement tanks for the Rosman area will be scheduled and that Brevard High School scope 1 (work at the old gym) is under review with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction; Allison described the DPI review process as lengthy but said DPI has recently been more responsive.
Allison also noted the RFQ for a Construction Manager at Risk is out now and is due toward June, and she said she will provide a master schedule of projects and a regular update in the next board report. Board members asked for a single project timeline showing which projects are ahead or behind schedule; Allison said she will coordinate county-led versus school-led project timelines and post updates to the county website and the district’s share files for easier review.
The board did not take a separate vote on facility items at the meeting; Allison said construction activity will proceed as reviews and approvals are completed by DPI and contractors.
