Because this was a first reading, the policy can still be edited before final adoption.
Separately, the board approved submitting two topics as MSBA legislative resolutions before the association’s deadline, including language recommending that the Legislature replace MCA testing with required academic screening and district progress‑monitoring tools (for example, FastBridge) to better measure growth. The superintendent’s suggested language was forwarded for MSBA submission.
Board members asked for clearer wording around monitoring, parent notification and discipline consequences and agreed the first reading was an appropriate step to allow those refinements before final action.
