Rockingham County commissioners authorize staff to evaluate multiple RFPs for county projects

The Rockingham County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 4 authorized county staff to evaluate several requests for proposals and return recommendations to the board. The authorizations covered a floor-restoration project for a delegation area, a preventative-maintenance contract for laundry equipment, moving services for the Deeds office/county attorney/sheriff’s department and replacement computers for the sheriff dispatch center.
The actions began when an unidentified board member moved to authorize the senior director of facilities and planning and IT to evaluate floor-restoration proposals and return a recommendation; the motion was seconded and approved. Similar motions to authorize staff evaluation for the laundry contract, moving services and dispatch-computer procurements passed afterward.
Facilities staff told the board they have received bids or quotes in some cases and are still comparing proposals for conformance to specifications. On the HVAC question raised by a member of the public on Zoom, facilities staff said three quotes had been submitted but some appeared not to meet the specifications; staff said they are working to “make them apples-to-apples” before recommending an award.
Board members did not vote on contract awards at the meeting; each motion directed staff to complete evaluations and return with formal recommendations for approval. The procurements are expected to return to a future public agenda once staff reports are ready.
