When trustees raised questions about item 15 on the consent agenda, administration said a benefits committee comprising administrators recommended remaining with Blue Cross Blue Shield without engaging an agent. Administration cited cost and plan usage analysis and stated that an internal presentation showed approximately 99.1% of premiums were going toward coverage under Blue Cross Blue Shield.
On the student-athlete coverage, administration presented a cost comparison and recommended the TASB coop plan at a cost the presenter quantified as $101,000, noting that the TASB plan includes an upgraded catastrophic cash benefit not present in competing plans. The board approved the TASB recommendation.
Trustees asked about possibly revisiting the broker question later and the administration said the board could do so after staff and employee input. The board approved the consent agenda containing the employee plan and separately approved the student-athlete insurance award.
