Teachers union welcomes board; 230 copies of U.S. Constitution donated for eighth-graders

At the start of the meeting, a board member announced a donation of 230 copies of the United States Constitution for the eighth-grade class, saying the books were donated by the “9 17 society” and invoking the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2005 (Public Law 107-447) on educational materials related to the Constitution.
“I have for the eighth grade class, 230 copies of the United States Constitution,” Michelle said, noting the legal requirement to provide educational materials about the Constitution on or near Sept. 17 to commemorate its signing.
During citizen participation, Karen Roper, co-president of the Gettysburg Teachers Union, addressed the board and administration to welcome them and express the union’s interest in partnering to serve students. “We as representatives of Gettysburg’s dedicated and hardworking teachers just wanna welcome the board and administration community to a new school year,” Roper said.
District staff also briefed the board on school-start logistics; an administrator said students will return Wednesday and communications coordinator Vanessa sent information on arrival and dismissal times. Staff noted excitement for the upcoming school year.
The meeting proceeded to routine approvals and adjournment.
