GALLOWAY TWP., N.J. — The Galloway Township Board of Education opened a public hearing required by law on the superintendent’s contract and then voted to approve the contract at Monday’s meeting. During the subsequent new-business phase the board also approved a motion giving the superintendent limited hiring authority for positions currently open.
The public hearing on the superintendent’s contract produced no members of the public asking questions, and the board then moved to adopt the contract. During the roll-call vote the board recorded at least two abstentions; the motion carried.
Later in new business a board member moved to grant the superintendent authority to hire candidates for positions that are already open so the district can fill vacancies before the next meeting, while new positions would still require board approval. The motion was moved and seconded and approved by roll call.
Board counsel opened the public hearing on the contract as required by statute and instructed speakers on the process; no public commenters spoke to the contract. The board did not add conditions to the contract approval during the public vote.
Next steps: approved hires under the temporary authority will be processed per district practice and will be reported to the board at subsequent meetings.
