During the public‑comment period at the Aug. 19 Kingsport meeting, resident Tim Sanders of 1213 Bloomingdale Pike urged the city to continue scrutiny of proposed AEP rate increases and related tariff charges.
Sanders summarized parts of a public‑filing notice and defined two acronyms he said appear in AEP materials: TRP (targeted reliability plan) and MS (major storm). He said the tariff filing is on file with the Tennessee Utility Commission (TPUC) in Nashville and identified the TPUC office address as 502 Dedrick Street, Nashville. Sanders argued the tariff surcharge operates like a municipal tax and predicted it would increase local costs such as property, water and sewer rates. He said: “Tariff surcharge, don't care what they call it. It's a tax.”
The board thanked Sanders for his remarks; no action on the AEP filing was recorded in this meeting.
