Newton’s City Commission approved an updated mutual-aid agreement intended to coordinate Fire and EMS responses among several neighboring cities.
City staff explained the agreement revives or reinitiates a mutual-aid pact that originally began in 2007 and noted that the city of Sedgwick reinstated EMS services in January, prompting the update. Staff said the renewed agreement largely mirrors the previous document and gives participating jurisdictions flexibility to share resources when one system is busy while avoiding overburdening another.
A commissioner moved approval and, after a second and brief discussion, the commission approved the agreement on a voice vote.
