East Lansing planners to review Lansing Charter Township draft master plan; comments due Nov. 19

Planning staff said the township, as required by state practice, distributed the draft to adjacent municipalities and requested comments; staff asked the commission to return any comments by mid‑November, with the township later noting a Nov. 19 public hearing at 6 p.m.
Planner Bartley recommended commissioners compare Lansing Township's draft with East Lansing's new comprehensive plan — especially along shared borders — and flag any proposals that might be inconsistent with East Lansing's future land use map. Bartley said he did not see anything in the draft that appeared "too controversial," but encouraged members to identify good planning principles to endorse or items to call out.
Vice Chair Wagner asked whether the commission should perform a side‑by‑side comparison with East Lansing’s plan; Bartley said official comment from the commission would be most useful if it focused on the shared border areas and future land use correspondence. Commissioners discussed scheduling a deeper review at the commission’s second October meeting to ensure comments are timely and thorough.
Staff said the township expects comments by mid‑November and that its public hearing is scheduled for Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. The commission agreed to include the item on a future agenda for a fuller review and to submit individual or collective comments before the township’s comment deadline.
The commission took no formal vote on the township plan at the meeting. Commissioners were encouraged to review the executive summary in their packets and forward comments to planning staff.
