The ordinance awards an initial 10‑year franchise with the option for two additional 5‑year extensions. The ordinance reserves the city's right to impose a franchise fee not to exceed 5 percent of a franchisee's gross annual revenues for gas distributed within city limits. The clerk read the ordinance summary and said the mayor is authorized to execute the franchise agreement.
Councilmember Greg Hampton moved the measure and Councilmember Wilkins Brent seconded; the clerk recorded roll‑call affirmative votes and the ordinance passed. The full text will be available at the city clerk's office and at Georgetown's official website.
Council members did not raise amendments during the second reading. The ordinance includes standard repeal and severability clauses and takes effect upon passage and publication.
