Boyle County honors EMS crew for cardiac-arrest save; approves IV pumps and training tools

Boyle County honored paramedics and EMTs on Aug. 12 for a successful resuscitation. The surviving patient, David Herron, attended the meeting and publicly thanked the EMS crew for their actions that he said saved his life.
County EMS staff recounted the response: an adult male with altered mental status who then lost a pulse in the ambulance, with paramedics initiating CPR, airway management and epinephrine, after which the patient regained a pulse en route to the ER. The court presented challenge coins and formal recognition to the crews involved.
Separately, the EMS committee recommended procurement of four IV pumps and four heavy-duty cases to protect the equipment. Three vendor quotes were summarized: Master Medical ($5,750), Vountree (about $8,130, without heavy-duty cases), and Penn Care ($8,180, including cases). The EMS committee and staff recommended Penn Care; the court approved the purchase by voice vote. The court also approved a budgeted renewal for an online learning-management system (FoamFry) at $3,110.21.
The recognition and equipment decisions were framed by magistrates as support for first responders and public-safety readiness. David Herron offered brief remarks: "I would just like to thank our EMTs. I mean, if it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be here."
