Director reports steady achievement trends; AP participation and local facilities updates

Director Mike provided the board with a brief overview of student achievement data, AP participation and ongoing facility projects.

Mike said packet charts show five-year trends in ELA, math, science and social studies and noted that all subjects except science have shown steady growth since 2021; growth measures and final letter grades will be released after the state releases growth data later in the year. He stressed that the district is focusing on science and has purchased a new curriculum to address performance there.

On Advanced Placement courses, Mike reported AP U.S. History had six students take the exam and all scored a 3 or above; AP calculus had 16 students with roughly half achieving 3 or above; AP precalculus had 35 students with 91% scoring 3 or above. Mike said scores earning a 3 or above can be counted for college credit.

Mike also updated the board on facilities: a new curtain was installed in the annex theater, the stage floor is being renovated through an Eagle Scout project with district-supplied materials, and the auditorium roof is no longer leaking. He said the district will address dressing rooms next and that the next board meeting will include video that will be uploaded for public viewing.

In a short human-interest moment, Kyle introduced Carmen Wallace and presented a certificate recognizing her 21 years of bus-driving service. Wallace said she was "humbled" and "honored" to receive the recognition.

Outcome: No formal decisions required at the time beyond ongoing implementation of curriculum purchases and planned facility work.
