The board voted to accept the independent auditor’s report for the 2023–24 fiscal year after an audit presentation that described an unmodified opinion, a modest year‑over‑year decrease in net expenditures, and an increase in general receipts primarily due to property‑tax revenue. Ryan Britz, the independent auditor, summarized the conclusion as "our opinion is basically what they would call an unmodified" report and noted one internal‑control finding related to financial statement preparation.
On facilities, the board approved quotes from Prairie Mechanical to repair two HVAC units at Beatrice High School — the IT room and the nurse’s station — after staff explained the building’s age and the operational need for those units. Jackie (Speaker 5) said the quoted costs for the two units are roughly $5,304.88 and $5,303.88, or about $10,600 total for the two repairs.
The board also approved the purchase of a used Bobcat from Mead Lumber for $31,500, to be used primarily for snow removal at the elementary school and for other district projects; Jackie said some of the purchase will be funded from auction proceeds. Finally, the board approved a superintendent contract addendum for the 2025–26 school year that reflects a 1.9% increase, placing the superintendent’s annual salary at $200,000.
Each motion was moved, seconded and put to the board’s vote; meeting minutes record that the motions "pass[ed]." The board set its next regular meeting for Jan. 13, 2025, at 7 p.m. in the Administration Building.
