Stewart County School Board approves nine tenures, re-appropriates funds for Dover Elementary roof

On Budget Amendment 141, Mike told the board the amendment returns $200,000 previously appropriated in the 2025 budget for the golf facility and ball-field bathrooms to the 2026 budget, and appropriates $500,000 from fund balance for a roof replacement at Dover Elementary. He also said the amendment records reimbursements the district is receiving from the state for $2,000 teacher bonuses and for summer camp transportation and construction costs.
Board members asked technical questions about the roof scope and bidding approach; Mike said the work will cover the entire building and gym and that estimates drove the $500,000 figure. After discussion the board approved the budget amendment by voice vote.
The board also voted to adopt benevolence fund guidelines for a fund managed through the Family Resource Center, citing a recommendation from state auditors to document how monetary assistance will be dispersed and accounted for. Cindy Myers was named in the discussion as the Family Resource Center contact.
Finally, the board amended its calendar to move the November regular meeting to Thursday, Nov. 6, to avoid a conflict with the Tennessee School Boards Association convention.
