At its July 22 recessed meeting the Arlington County Board recorded several formal actions. Highlights of board votes and immediate outcomes follow.
1) 1 Roslyn redevelopment (1901 & 1911 N. Fort Myer Drive): Approved (5–0). The board approved a rezoning/PDSP and site-plan amendment to permit three residential towers (~845 units). The approval ties bonus density to $11.2 million in affordable-housing and public-space/transportation contributions, LEED Gold target and other conditions. Board directed continued coordination with VDOT and ACPD on safety mitigations and with staff on final sustainability/permitting details.
2) Shirlington House (SPLN 24-1): Approved (5–0). The site plan will add up to 73 units through infill, preserve the existing 1963 building in the site plan, and vacate storm-sewer and sidewalk easements; 12 committed on-site affordable units are part of the package.
3) Speed-limit ordinance (five corridors): Adopted (5–0). DES recommended, and the board adopted, reductions in posted speed limits on five arterial/local corridors after a study of speeds, volumes, school presence and crash history; staff will run post-implementation analyses.
4) FY26 audit work plan: Approved (5–0). The board approved the County Auditor’s FY26 work plan (five performance audits plus follow-ups and audit infrastructure), authorizing staff to pursue audits through the fiscal year.
5) Aspire Afterschool grant amendment: Approved (5–0). The board added $16,600 to an existing RACE grant for Aspire to replace lost AmeriCorps funding and preserve afterschool programming capacity.
6) Opioid settlements: Authorized participation (5–0). The board authorized county counsel to sign settlement documents with multiple opioid manufacturers; release documents to be executed by counsel.
7) Acting County Attorney appointment: Approved (5–0). The board appointed Ryan Samuel as Acting County Attorney effective Sept. 8, 2025, and authorized compensation adjustments per administrative rules.
Each vote recorded was unanimous (5–0). For implementation the board directed follow-up steps including deed execution for easement vacations, VDOT/ACPD coordination for traffic safety, performance verification for sustainability elements and standard grant administration tasks.
