Board honors students and says farewell to long-serving member Michelle Wall

The Appoquinimink School District board used part of its June 10 meeting to honor student achievements and to recognize board member Michelle Wall, who is leaving the board after 10 years of service.
Students and instructors from district programs received public recognition: the district's Grow Your Own teacher-apprenticeship cohort (paraeducators becoming teachers of record) were acknowledged as the state's first program of that type; Alfred G. Waters Middle School students who placed at Delaware BPA and competed nationally were named; and Odessa High School’s ProStart students were honored as back-to-back state champions who placed in the top 20 nationally.
Steve Byers, who identified himself as president of the Appoquinimink Education Association, spoke on behalf of the educators’ group and thanked Michelle Wall for her service. Superintendent Doctor Burrows and multiple board members recounted Wall’s work on parent engagement, referendums and advocacy for students, and the board presented proclamations and gifts. The meeting paused for photos and a cake reception.
