New Appoquinimink school nearly complete; certificate of occupancy obtained, staff moving mid-July

Mister Hopkins updated the board on construction progress at the new school on June 10, saying the project is moving into final finishes and that the district has received a certificate of occupancy. He said administrative staff are scheduled to occupy the new building on July 17 and nutrition staff are moving in now to prepare to serve lunches beginning July 23.
Hopkins described work completed — sod installation, concrete walkways, window cleaning, furniture delivery and gymnasium installation — and said only minor punch-list items remain. He invited neighbors to view the site and said the project was "on budget" and "on time."
During the meeting Hopkins presented change orders for approval including an approximately $41,000 change order for additional sod and irrigation to stabilize the site and another change order of roughly $21,000 for premium-time work to help meet the timeline; the board approved the change orders by voice vote.
Hopkins said some final demo and grading work will be done in areas around the building and reiterated the schedule for occupancy and the start of food service from the new kitchen.
