The Gucci County Board of Commissioners voted Sept. 23 to set a preliminary 2026 gross property tax levy at $8,347,552, an 8.99% increase from the 2025 levy. County staff said the recommendation reflects preliminary department budget submissions and would raise general revenue by $220,579 and Health & Human Services by $476,965.
Adam, the county administrative staff member who presented the budget outlook, told commissioners the original preliminary projections had shown increases closer to 14% but that line-item reviews and further committee meetings reduced that to 8.99%. He also said the highway, environmental services and jail-bond levies would remain unchanged under the proposal.
The board approved the levy and set a Truth in Taxation hearing for Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025, at 6 p.m. in the courthouse’s historic third-floor courtroom to allow public comment and final adjustments.
Why it matters: county staff said the larger share of the increase is driven by rising public-health program costs and grant pass-throughs, which can fluctuate year to year. Commissioners discussed continuing line-item budget reviews and possible workshops to limit future levy growth.
What’s next: the Truth in Taxation meeting in December will be the formal opportunity for residents to review the proposed budget and levy before final adoption.
