The Oskaloosa City Council on Aug. 4 approved on first reading an ordinance to rezone a half‑acre lot at 1201 C Avenue East from R1 (Suburban Residential) to PI (Public Institutional). The application, submitted by Mahaska Health Partnership, is intended to accommodate expanded parking near the hospital.
City staff noted the site is a half‑acre with an existing monument sign, is adjacent to PI zoning to the east and R1 to the north and west, and that the Planning and Zoning Commission held a public hearing on July 8 and recommended approval by a 6–0 vote. The council opened the required public hearing on Aug. 4; no members of the public signed up to speak and the council approved the rezoning on first reading by roll call.
The rezoning will proceed to subsequent readings as required by city ordinance before becoming final.
