Lewiston honors first responders with VFW and American Legion awards

The City of Lewiston recognized local first responders at its council meeting as the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion presented awards to firefighters, police officers and dispatchers.
Fire Chief Greg Reitmeier introduced the VFW delegation and the evening’s awards, which included state-level honors for firefighter Brian Burke and firefighter-paramedic Chris Jones. The VFW also presented a national law enforcement award to Patrol Officer Matt Anderson and a dispatcher award to communication specialist Sarah Showers.
The American Legion Post 13 presented awards that included firefighter of the year (Richie Lucas), paramedic of the year (Jonathan Sells) and police officer of the year (Nick Eiler). Chief Reitmeier and other speakers praised the recipients for leadership, improvements to protocols and contributions such as restarting an honor guard and work on a child advocacy center.
The awards were ceremonial; no formal council action was required. Council and audience members thanked recipients and the veteran organizations for the presentations.
