Lewiston council clears bond election ordinance for $22.54 million infrastructure package

The Lewiston City Council approved Ordinance 49.55 on second and third readings Tuesday, authorizing a special bond election for general obligation bonds not to exceed $22,540,000. The bond proceeds, if approved by voters, would fund wastewater, water, stormwater and road infrastructure projects and related costs.
Clerk Brockie read the ordinance title and amount into the record. The council dispensed with the requirement that an ordinance be read on three different days and combined the second and third readings before approving the ordinance by voice vote.
Public Works Director Dustin Johnson was available to answer questions about the projects if councilors needed further technical detail. The ordinance also establishes the election date, ballot form and provides for voter registration and other related matters.
Next steps: If the council’s ordinance is approved by voters at the special election, the city would proceed with project planning and contract procurements consistent with the bond purpose and state procurement law.
