At the Sept. 22 meeting the City of El Campo proclaimed October 2025 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Mayor UT Bustamante read the proclamation noting the work of survivors, local domestic-violence programs and victim-service providers, and cited that the local crisis center served 1,061 clients and provided 6,970 nights of shelter in the past year.
A crisis-center representative (Speaker 5) thanked the council for support, described the center’s services and invited the public to the center’s annual 'Walk a Mile in Their Shoes' event on Wednesday, Oct. 1 (meeting at 11:30 a.m.; walk at noon) with a short program and pizza afterward. Staff noted the center will promote awareness activities during October, including 'Go Purple Day' on Oct. 5.
The council affixed the mayor’s proclamation to the record. The event is coordinated with the center and local law enforcement for participant safety.
