Bossier Parish School Board honors state and national archery champions and several staff achievements

The Bossier Parish School Board used its Aug. 21 meeting to recognize student and staff accomplishments from the summer months, spotlighting state and national archery champions and several staff awards.
Communications and media officer Sonia Bales led recognitions, calling students and coaches forward from Benton Intermediate, Benton Middle, Airline High, Benton High, Haughton and other schools to honor team and individual placings. Bales recounted scores and finishes at state and national competitions — including national titles and high top‑five finishes — and invited representatives from Bossier Federal Credit Union and U.S. Rep. Mike Johnson’s office to present awards and certificates of congressional commendation.
Matt McKee, representing Speaker Mike Johnson’s office, presented certificates of congressional commendation to winning students and teams, and Sarah Owens of Bossier Federal Credit Union participated in handing out medals and sponsor awards. Sonia Bales said Benton Middle School placed first among 152 teams to become national archery champions, and individual students from across the district also earned national standings.
The board also recognized internal staff achievements: Dr. Erin Wink (assistant principal at Benton High School) was honored for completing a Doctor of Education from Baylor University and received an award of excellence medallion. Superintendent J. Roland announced that Miss Sam Darby will be celebrated as a 2025 Maddie Brewer McCullough '50 over 50' honoree on Sept. 4 at the Bossier Civic Center and summarized Darby’s long record of service to Bossier Schools.
Superintendent Roland opened and closed the recognitions portion by congratulating students, coaches and staff and noted the district’s continued emphasis on student opportunities and pipeline programs for future educators.
The recognitions drew applause and a large audience; presentations and award certificates were on the record and acknowledged by the board.
