Senior Director Candy Amato presented the Schools of McKeel charter renewal review on Aug. 23, recommending a 15‑year renewal for the three McKeel campuses (South McKeel K–6; McKeel Academy Central K–6; McKeel Academy Technology 7–12).
Amato said all three campuses are designated high‑performing and test 100% of their students. Audits and finance reviews showed the charter system is financially solvent with a healthy fund balance and no outstanding audit concerns. The renewal team identified one area for improvement—middle‑school acceleration point capture—and said staff and the school will coordinate a meeting to address it. Amato noted that the schools are eligible for a 15‑year renewal under Florida statutes 1002.33 and 1002.331 because of their high‑performing status.
The renewal recommendation will come to the board for a final vote at the Oct. 28 board meeting. Board members asked follow‑up questions about enrollment and capacity; staff said one campus is landlocked and cannot expand because of site constraints. No final action was taken at the work session.
